Theater supports various content sources and formats. This guide explains what will work with the app and what won’t.

Supported Content Sources

Theater currently supports the following content sources:

  • YouTube: Access the full YouTube library through our integrated player

  • Plex: Connect to a personal Plex media server

  • Local Media: Play videos stored on your Apple Vision Pro

  • 💡Video URLs: Direct links to compatible video files

    • Tap the ⚙️ “Gear” icon to access Settings > General to load your videos on the Internet. See below for compatible formats.

Supported File Formats

Theater supports the following video formats for local playback:

  • MP4 (H.264, H.265/HEVC)

  • MOV

  • M4V

  • MKV (through Plex)

Unsupported Streaming Services

Due to platform restrictions and licensing limitations, Theater cannot directly access content from:

  • Netflix

  • Disney+

  • Amazon Prime Video

  • Hulu

  • Apple TV+

  • Other subscription streaming services

Note: 👮 This is a limitation imposed by these services, not a restriction within Theater itself. These services do not allow third-party apps on Vision Pro to access their content. 🙏🏼 If you, a friend, family member, friendly ex- or neighbor work at a film distribution company or “streamer”, our users would love your help! We offer the venue: they bring the shows!
